Anyone here ever raise hens?

Curious to see if anyone has experience with it. We have a place not far from here that sells chicks. When we buy a house, we plan on getting some. Not sure how many. Maybe 3 or 5 hens. Just a small group. I never worked with hens, raised them, or anything of the sort.

Grew up on a farm in Tennessee, and we had Chickens. They weren't too bad, but it also depends on the breed since some are more temper then others

It seems like the heritage ones are the best for temperament and egg quality but the hybrids will lay year-round.

See, those are probably 12-pound cats.

They don't get that big. The average size is only 20 pounds.
I know they're not huge, but it only takes a moment of anger for that difference to play a huge factor. You've also got to put a lot of work into raising bobcats, they are not super easy to raise or domesticate. Just make sure you've got plenty of space for running and expect wild cat behaviours, obviously. Lots of hard work!

The vet I worked for had people who raised them that came in. As long as they are fed a good diet and have an outdoor enclosure, they do great. No cats are domesticated. Not even house cats. They are semi-domesticated at best. You can have a tiger with the same personality as a lazy housecat and you can have a house cat with the same personality as a wild mountain lion.

That's a fair point, cats do come in all temperaments. Well if you do go down that route, good luck! It could be an incredible experience!

It wouldn't be for a while. Need to have time, money, and space for one. We plan on having an outdoor enclosure for the other cats anyway so that would be already set up and ready to go. Might just have to expand it when/if the time comes.

Agreed, gonna' need a ranch property or something along those lines, lots of room to run!

I guess Bobcats aren't considered exotic because they're entirely native to North America and not endangered or anything. They're just a big feral cat that will rip your face off! Best of luck to you!
