I may not follow the anime but I really enjoy the competitive side of Pokemon so I am a big fan of the browser game (Pokemon Showdown!) as well as the licensed RPG ones.

I am excited to see what they do with Gen 8. I am hoping for some more cat-like Pokemon. Can't ever have enough of those.

As for the card game, I haven't played that in a long, long time. I was obsessed when it first came out. Had loads of cards but I lost interest after a few years and never got back into it.

If you are into Pokemon games, feel free to chat about anything pertaining to them in this thread.

When it comes to core Pokemon games, I only like playing Red/Blue/Yellow & Gold/Silver/Crystal and their remakes. If I play the other games it's only because I want to train my Pokemon for competitive play. I have yet to do even that since I bought all the generations.

Outside of the Stadium games (Stadium & Stadium 2, Colosseum & XD, Battle Revolution), the spin off titles hardly interest me at all anymore.

You ever mess around on Pokemon Showdown?

I love the core games, but never got too deep into the spinoffs and various other aspects of Pokemon games. I did play some of the ROM Hacks that came out over the years, and some of them were great, but I mostly stick to the core games. It's a shame the modern ones are trending easier and easier in terms of scale of difficulty, but they're still fun to play through.

Yeah I wish they would at least give an option to make them harder. You can only get that when you play ROMs and use some random modes. The latest game "Let's Go" was very hand-holdy which is why I have hope for this next one being harder than Sun and Moon but I am not holding my breath.

Yeah, I agree with that. I view the Let's Go games more in line with a "let's test the waters and see how people respond" sort of perspective, and now that they've given it a try and see that it will sell, they can develop a genuine core RPG for the next one. I agree that it needs to be more independent and exploratory like the original games were, but I think we'll see a little more of the core games coming into the next releases simply for the fact that everyone has now gotten over the "OMG, it's Pokemon on a proper console!" experience, and they can now focus on making it a good game again. Hopefully.

Fingers are crossed man. I just don't want another game where I feel like I coast through it with little challenges. I haven't even gotten a Switch yet since I been a primary PC gamer (aside from my 3DS) for the last 5 years. I will be getting one over the summer though. I have other games I want to play so it won't be a waste if the Pokemon game ends up not being something I enjoy. I will still enjoy the battles I am sure.

A bit worried about the "armored" aspect though I been hearing about. lol

That's something I've heard about but not seen much of. I agree it's a little worrying. We've already got mega evolutions, and z-crystals and whatever else, an "armored" Pokemon just seems...too far. I play the games without touching Z-moves or mega evolutions because I don't want to dumb down the game more than it is already, so dealing with armored Pokemon seems like a step too far. What's next, a cloak of invisibility? Step it backwards a bit, IMO.

Oh yeah, the Switch is a worthwhile investment, for sure. I love playing a little Super Mario Odyssey or Super Smash Bros every now and then, and I'm loving going back through Captain Toad's Treasure Tracker now that it's been ported from the Wii U to the Switch, and Kirby Star Allies is a pretty fun game, as well. So even if Pokemon isn't an amazing experience next generation, there's plenty on the Switch to keep you occupied!

(though also, yes, PC Master Race ;))

I don't dislike Let's Go, but I hope those games are the only core Pokemon games with that kind of gameplay, considering they were remakes of Pokemon Yellow anyway. I doubt it though, especially since I heard the possibility of them making future titles with the same mechanics. Don't quote me on that though.

I don't mind the games being open world and such like Let's Go... I just want it to be more challenging. Let's Go was just far to basic for me since I love the challenge of catching Pokemon as well as training them up and battling them.

There were some other leaks back in February that I heard about. I think someone posted them on reddit. They got me a bit worried. I love the megas, not big on the z crystals... the armor...

I just hope it isn't something stupid like Ash Greninja...

Well, with a bit of luck maybe it'll be like other series when they shift to a new platform. The first game is the basic game, rolled out with little more than a "look we're on a new platform!" and some flashier graphics. The next game builds upon the last, and so on. Maybe this next gen will be the console experience people have been hoping for since the early days of Pokemon on GameBoy. It's doubtful, but we can dream ;)

What are your favorite Pokemon?

I like the Bulbasaur line, the Chikorita line, the Charmander line, the Cyndaquil line, Pikachu & Raichu, Poliwrath & Politoed, Slowbro & Slowking, the Electabuzz line, the Magmar line, the Dragonite line, the Kingdra line, and the Tyranitar line the most.

Overall? Hmm...

Vaporeon is a longstanding favorite of mine off the bat. I also like Mew, Litten, Zeraora, Salamence, Dragonair, Espeon, and Solgaleo to name a few.

I loved Eevee as a kid and I liked Flareon the best out of the three Kanto Eeveelutions back in the day. Now I like Vaporeon and Jolteon better because they're so much better competitively.

I like all of the Eeveelutions in terms of looks but usage wise, I like Vaporeon, Jolteon, and Umbreon the most.

One thing I'll give Flareon is that before Generation IV and before the physical and special split, it was the only Eeveelution who could properly use Shadow Ball. It was also at least usable back then because Generation IV is also when Pokemon were becoming overpowered.

On the right team, Flareon with guts can work. Just gotta get the speed up right away.

I've always been a softy for Raichu, myself. Not competitively, but Raichu for one reason or another always held a special spot for me. Don't like the Alolan variant so much, but standard Raichu, absolutely.
