I just laugh about it at this point. If people want to go around being racist toward "white people" or hate themselves for having a lighter skin tone, that is on them.
None of this will matter if/when WW3 happens.

The Woman King is a film centered on the Dahomey Kingdom's battles with the Oyo Kingdom in the 19th Century. Supposedly, its biggest controversy is that it downplays the involvement of Dahomey in the Atlantic slave trade. This has absolutely zero to do with any kind of "wokeness".
I'm glad to see Hollywood creating more Black-centered and Black-dominated films. Historical accuracy is very important, but I don't think that a few missteps should condemn an entire film.

Based on what I read about it, it was watered down and misleading compared to the original story. That being said, it was meant to be "inspired by" it, which means it won't be historically accurate. I don't watch movies these days but I do agree with you, about black-centered stories. There are plenty out there that would make amazing films but the majority of what is produced for black audiences is nonsense comedy and unrealistic romances. Very few have focused mainly on historic events.
I don't know if it was "woke" or not having not watched it but I do know a lot of people were disappointed in it. People who were actually excited to see it. Can't say why.
I stopped watching movies many years ago. I prefer series. I can bet you a story like this would have been better as a series. Most modern movies just don't do good.
