Microsuck acquired Skype in 2011 and it did carry on doing fine for a number of years after that but severely fell off in 2017 and never recovered.
I remember their first set of changes cause me and Jay used it to talk to each other every day before he moved to the US. The changes they made were... Terrible. So much so we tried finding an alternative but couldn't at the time.
They forced it into trends that were not promising too fast in an effort to compete with other platforms and ended up ruining everything about it.
