Z first since it was on television and circulating on tapes at school. However, I prefer Dragonball. In a way I'm happier to have seen it this way as I believe I would've disliked Z if I saw it after DB.

Primary protagonists? Ooof, tough. I'm really not the biggest fan of main characters in anime. I like Ippo Makunouchi, Shiro Amada, Deku, and I'm sure I could drag out some others if I really try hard.
