Tech Best camera on smartphone from 2018/2019?

As mentioned ina status, the back of my phone is in bits (whispers: little bits) and I have to keep the case/cover on or it will end up being a mess.

I have to get a new phone and I base my purchase mainly on two things: Battery life and camera quality. I don't use my phone on a regular basis, I do minimal browsing, I don't watch videos or play games on it. I basically want a glorified camera that I can text people on and make calls on. lol

I am not looking to spend over $350 and I have to get one that is factory unlocked to work with my sim (GSM) and it has to be new, not refurbished. Ideally, I can find one for under $300.

The two phones I am looking at right now are the Samsung s9 and the Google Pixel 3.

Are there any other ones out there worth looking into? If not, of these two which would you say is better all around?

Did more research. The battery seems to not be as good on the pixel 3 so I am going to go with the s9.

Having used a Galaxy S5, 7 and now Note 9, I'd say that's a fine choice.

The s9+ might be the better option but it costs more and probably too big for me. I just have to make sure the one I buy has Snapdragon.

Yeah, the base s9 is a decent size. I went with the Note this generation and it's absolutely huge (I put in next to my original Moto Droid, which I keep lying around, and the thing is just...it's nearly 3 times the size!). I still like it, and I love the increased real estate, but it's a hell of a handful, so the base s9 is probably the best option.

The plus has the extra camera and it is a bummer that the s9 didn't come with that. Seems odd considering a lot of people can't handle larger phones. I have small hands! I am only 5'3! Samsung hats short people with little hands confirmed!

My sister's about the same and she made the mistake of going with the Note 9, and that was just a bad choice all around. It's way too big for her to use without two hands, which is hilarious for me (I'm 6'1" and have...well...adequate hands...) watching her use it, but got old for her very quickly. I'm assuming she won't make that mistake with her next upgrade, whenever that happens.

Understandable, completely, I wouldn't recommend the Note for most people, and honestly I'm not entirely sure who its' marketed towards, because it's just not that comfortable to use everyday.

He'd just convert a tablet at that point, carry a Galaxy Tab everywhere with him that can make calls. Even that would look small in his hands.

How about Huawei p30 pro? Or p20? Not sure how much they cost in US but Huawei pros make good pictures as far as I've seen.

Xiaomi is a great brand and they offer better specs but the cameras aren't as good as Samsung's
