Not really. This is actually in the same "game" universe as those.

"Digimon World" branded games are the VPET series like on PS1; the latest of which is Next Order. The DS "Digimon World" games are actually part of the Digimon Story series - they were called Digimon Story in Japan, just rebranded as "World" in US to try and capitalise off the PS series.

Digimon as a franchise has always been about Digimon intersecting with the real world (usually Japan). In fact, Tamers (the third series) they were in the Digital World so little; when they do get there it's a really chaotic and desolate place.

I've only played the first part of the first one a couple of times. It's a cool idea and they did some cool stuff with it. Just keeping them alive was too much of a hassle.
