This is something I've noticed for a while... Manga readers usually like reading the best of the best and call stuff like Naruto, Bleach, and Fairy Tail trash. There's definitely some high points in all three of these series if you ask me personally.

Manga readers are sometimes elitist who try to overly criticize Shonen and gravitate toward stuff like Berserk, Vagabond, Vinland Saga, and Kingdom.

I just recently started reading manga. And what I chose to read is based on what I've already enjoyed in anime form. I didn't like the Naruto anime after a while. It seemed very repetitive and boring. I liked Bleach, so could see myself some day reading that. Fairy Tail was ok...not sure I'd read it.

I agree with your same expectations and I have a recommendation that may very well meet your expectations for a good story. I really enjoyed the anime in both English and Japanese (Netflix subtitles aside). So I had high hopes for the manga and it does not disappoint.

Not really. If anything they had way higher degrees of elitism back in 2006 when you weren't cool unless you hated DBZ and liked Fullmetal Alchemist, Death Note, Naruto or Hunter x Hunter.

Dragon Ball is objectively far better than Naruto and Bleach, much less Fairy Tail or My Homo Academia. That's just become the consensus.

There's elitists in any fanbase, definitely when it's something as large as an entire medium. There's plenty of people who just watch anime that will also call Naruto, Bleach, and Fairy Tail trash.
