somethings going on in my mind why is it that when black kills goten. goten is still a kid but future trunks is all grown up

Goten was killed as a child. Future Trunks is the child Trunks of that timeline. He was not killed so was able to grow up on the run with Bulma and Gohan. There are two different timelines involved in the story.
