In fact, I feel like I have been overrating the Buu Saga a lot lately and think my nostalgia glasses have been blinding me lately.
The Cell Saga is IMO far superior to the Majin Buu Saga, it's not even funny. And playing the Cell Saga Era in Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot (2020) has really given me a new found appreciation for this great Saga and Era of Dragon Ball. I love Cell (especiallly when he becomes perfect, he is by far best villain in all of Dragon Ball, no questions asked and the design of Perfect Cell is by far the best design of any Dragon Ball character period.) He is definitely is better than Frieza and definitely better than the turd of a villain that was Evil Buu.
I also like how my boys, Yamcha and Tien were still part of the gang and still somewhat relevant in the Cell Saga, unlike the Majin Buu Saga where they both give up fighting and Tien only gets one cameo in the whole entire Buu Saga. I like how everyone gets still gets time to shine in this Saga and I love Vegeta's arrogance and how in-character he is in this Saga in comparison to the Buu Saga (which made him give up on surpassing Goku and made him confess that Kakarot is #1, which is IMO TOTALLY out of character for Vegeta to do).
But IMO, the superior way of experiencing the Cell Saga for me will ALWAYS be through playing Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot as opposed to watching the show or reading the manga.
