Dragon Ball Z If Android 17 and 18 are still androids, how did they both have children?

This has confused me for awhile. I mean they clearly are still androids given that they never lose energy reserves and this was noted in Dragon Ball Super a few times.

I am just confused as to what happened in DBZ that changed this for them. They both have children, though we do not see Android 17's kids.

Anyone remember what happened here? I am drawing a blank. Maybe they touched more on this in the manga than they did in the anime.

So Android 16 was a legit android then unlike them? I was thinking they were the same as he was based on the battle with Cell and remembered his head being cut off.

I think so. I haven't seen anything to make me feel otherwise. The only ones I remember them explaining in detail are 17 and 18 and how they were actually human twins before being modified. Now THAT would be an awesome back story. I'd love to see a short mini-series about how 17 and 18 lived up to how they became androids.

I would love to see a mini series on this as well. Like I would imagine he abducted them or something. Likely had to brainwash them and what not.

I agree with the mini-series idea. I think the only info we have on them outside of the manga and anime was Toriyama randomly opening his mouth during an interview. 17’s previous name was Lapis and 18 was Lazuli. I recall something about them being punk kids or in a gang, some thing along those lines.

Now that I think about it, that makes Dr. Gero seem really creepy that he abducted a pair of teenagers and.....did things to them. What an f’n weirdo.
