Is it even reasonable at this point to focus on power scaling?

I feel like the power levels meant a lot more back in the Dragon Ball days and early DBZ days but nearing the end of DBZ and heading into Super, it just feels like it has gotten to be ridiculous. I see people arguing about this stuff online all the time as well and I don't think anyone can say they are definitively right or wrong because I don't even think Toriyama knows where the scale is anymore. Things have changed within the canon story as well that were never addressed like heights, body sizes, and so on which is understandable to a certain degree because this is a very long-running anime but c'mon man! (lol)

Do you think it is even reasonable anymore to focus on power scaling for any of the characters? I mean outside of "Oh, he is obviously stronger than Goku because he is winning but OH WAIT! Goku overcame him and is now stronger again this time for some reason yay!".

I think we just have to accept the fact that every major change, transformation or power up is no longer a part of the power level scale (it only mattered until Goku went SSJ, we never found out his power level, but we knew Frieza was 1m+). It stopped being relevant and just became "my god, I've never felt a power like this before!" followed by "here comes Goku, he's ascended to another level!" Lather, rinse, repeat. So, no, I don't genuinely think power levels or power scales really make sense in DB anymore, because they made it irrelevant themselves, and god ki took it right out of the picture altogether.

Power scaling throughout the entire Manga was actually very consistent until the early Boo Saga (it becomes consistent after that too, though). On other older DBZ Forums, there's been a ton of debate over power levels displayed in the 25th Budokai and especially Babidi's Ship.

In Super however, I agree that you should ignore the implications and just focus on the story. The plot holes are all over the place, not just the power chains.
