Even if you were too old for Bionicle or too young to remember it or have grown up with Bionicle or you just never cared for the brand…was there ever or is there a particular set that has left somewhat of a lasting impression on you or made you think…”gee that that might be cool to own and build?”

For example, the white Toa guys (the Toa Of Ice) were always my favorite (Kopaka, and of course Matoro) because they were always very quiet, intelligent and introverted. The one exception to this preference is Toa Vakama, who was the exact opposite of what a Toa Of Fire is (the red guys), I liked him the most out of the Toa Metru/Toa Hordika. And Toa Matoro used the Mask Of Life to sacrifice his life to save Mata Nui and the universe in the 2007 storyline.

I understand this isn’t a Bionicle forum, but I just want to get a Dragon Ball fan’s perspective on the franchise.

Yeah, Roboriders were cool too (although I never owned any of them). I’m not quite sure why they never took off.

As for not getting into Bionicle, I can understand. When it came out, it was very different from anything LEGO had launched before and they were basically just big expensive action figures made of LEGO. The designs of Bionicles I’m sure weren’t appealing to everybody who wasn’t in to them and as popular as they were in the Early-To-Mid-2000’s, there were a lot of cons to the brand that hurt it in the long run and that certainly didn’t help win over non-fans or kids who weren’t into the brand. You had all the books, comics and later online serials that everyone didn’t have excess to. And as the years went by, the newer sets began to divide older fans in favor of winning over much more fickle newer and younger fans of the brand, and then there was the soft reboot of the story in 2009 that really alienated longtime fans (and newer fans) of Bionicle.

And it was around that time that the sets really stopped selling and so they canceled the brand at the end of that year and decided 2010 would be the last year new sets would be released in stores (until Bionicle was brought back again for a very short period of time back in 2015-2016), only for the brand to be cancelled again because the sets weren’t selling.

As far as the peak in popularity of the brand, Bionicle‘s peak in set sales was 2002-2003 and it peaked again later in 2006 and then the sales of the newer sets dropped off drastically after that.
