First U.S. Monkeypox Case Confirmed, with Gay Men Especially at Risk

The disease has been identified in nations like Canada, Britain, and now, the U.S.

Gay, bisexual, and men who have sex with men are particularly at risk, as evidenced by the recent outbreak in the U.K. which occurred amongst men in the LGBTQ+ community.

“The evidence suggests that there may be transmission of the monkeypox virus in the community, spread by close contact,” Dr. Susan Hopkins, Chief Medical Adviser at the U.K. Health Security Agency, said in a statement released Monday. “We are particularly urging men who are gay and bisexual to be aware of any unusual rashes or lesions and to contact a sexual health service without delay.”

I wouldn't call this evidence of being more spread among gay men but okay?

I mean do women not get monkeypox?

Reporting these days has no level of standards.

I looked into it more. I guess it can be transferred through bodily fluids. I guess gay men swap fluids at higher rates. (??)

There's just a slightly higher chance of any virus or STD spreading amongst homosexual men due to a potentially infected partner and the act of unprotected anal sex. Higher probability of viral load in fecal matter and the possible presence of blood. You swap that out with a woman and go knocking on the back door you run the same risk. It's just that two guys only have so many orifices to explore.

That won't happen today. At least not in the US. Gay men (assuming they support the right people and believe the right news) are a protected class.

Plus, monkeypox is a different variation of smallpox which has nothing to do with sex. Aids and such are a lot more common among gay men because of their lifestyle (sleeping around, not using protection, etc.), not because they are gay. Straight couples are more inclined to use protection (ladies get preggers) and not as many do backdoor services (lol). I think the majority of people understand that.
