I am late to this but apparently this was Trump's first week in office.
I have seen clips of people saying for the first time they could remember the streets weren't riddled with junkies and homeless people or illegals blasting music. I am guessing they (the city officials) realized Trump was coming back and let the cops be cops again. The whole fear of being labeled a racist made the cities more unsafe cause cops largely didn't want to do their jobs or were told not.

President Trump campaigned on a tough-on-crime policy, vowing to remove criminal illegal immigrants and give police resources they needed to keep cities safe.
It is crazy to think that this is the first time since 1995 that the city has gone this many days without people being shot.
