Sir Ian Holm (notable for playing many pivotal roles over the years including Bilbo Baggins in The Lord of the Rings, Coach Sam Mussabini in Chariots of Fire, Ash in Alien, Simeon Weisz in Lord of War, and so many more roles) has passed away, aged 88, from complications related to Parkinson's disease. In another blow to what has been an awful year all around, we have now lost another absolutely amazing actor.

(...we need a "Fuck 2020" emote or something, this is just getting ridiculous...:( )

Same here, I'd actually done a run through last month of the Hobbit and LotR extended editions...one a night for six nights. It was good fun.

I just read about this. I didn't know Parkinson's disease can lead to death.
Well it was complications resulting from Parkinson's, so likely his body was simply too weak to keep going, maybe his heart gave out on him, something like that. It's a genuine shame, but at least he isn't suffering anymore, as I'm sure that could not have been much fun to live with.
