I caught up on My Hero Academia yesterday.

I do like it a lot. The first impression was that it was corny. Corny powers, corny costumes, etc. But you learn to just accept the show for what it is after awhile and just enjoy it.

It also seems marketed towards young teens at first too. However, after awhile, you begin to notice a lot of adult stuff in there too, like Mineta being a lecherous little kid (And I found that hilarious).

As for Demon Slayer, I'm just not that into it so far. I'm 8 episodes in and it just seems like a regular anime with regular anime tropes & cliches. Nothing about it really sticks out or feels unique.

To add to it, it's pretty much just another vampires/Dracula anime. Yeah yeah, they are demons, but the only thing setting these demons apart from vampires is that they devour people instead of just sucking their blood. They are still created by an original demon (A Dracula) who turns people into them.

I've never been into vampire or zombie stuff much.

I know that anime, and particularly shonen, always have abilities or powers that are nonsensical... but when those powers are both corny and cliche AND are used as plot armor (Yugioh's Heart of the Cards?), it's a mark of poor or lazy writing.

That said, this is the case with the "opening thread" and the protagonists uncanny ability to smell his way to or through anything.

This guy can smell your underwear and tell you what you ate on November 8th of 2012. It's honestly the epitome of a LAME superpower.

The show isn't that bad and I intend to keep watching, but after my friends hyped this show up like it was another Attack on Titan , I'm fairly disappointed.

I find it interesting that you like Mineta, because most people who watch or read My Hero Academia tend to hate Mineta.

Demon Slayer looks good, but it also seems like a modern day InuYasha, and I would much rather watch or read InuYasha than Demon Slayer.

And yes, while My Hero Academia definitely has appeal, Attack On Titan is simply in a completely different league than it. Attack On Titan is truly the greatest new Shonen, bar none.

I think Mineta as a character overall is pretty bad, but his redeeming quality is that his lecherous behavior is hilarious.

I wasn't really comparing MHA to AoT, but rather Demon Slayer to AoT, because my friends were hyping it up like it was as good.

I read all of Demon Slayer since it became the biggest success story in Japan of like, all-time. In like 2020, it was the highest selling manga of the year, beating out the second best selling manga (Kingdom) by over 70 *million* copies, and of course Infinity Train becoming the highest grossing anime & Japanese film of all-time. I had to find out what all the hype was about, things aren't popular for no reason after all, and it was okay.

Not bad, not great, okay. I do love how compassionate Tanjiro is as a MC though, really liked how empathetic the series was. I get the anime might be better because they have Ufotable animating it and they produce some of the highest quality animation, but I found Zenitsu so obnoxious in the manga that I didn't bother dealing with him having a voice lol. I don't need to hear that whine.

I will say, Demon Slayer does have a few unique things about it, mostly in terms of how they structure their battles, but all that comes from stuff they haven't animated yet and I could be vague about it but I'll think I'll just stop there. I will say though on the other end of the spectrum, the series really did remind me of FMA. The same overarching thread between the siblings is the same but worse in Demon Slayer, Nezuko is just an Alphonse Elric without the personality.

Also, I like MHA more than Attack on Titan (I am still behind though tbf).
