I caught up on My Hero Academia yesterday. I do like it a lot. The first impression was that it was corny. Corny powers, corny costumes, etc. But you learn to just accept the show for what it is after awhile and just enjoy it. It also seems marketed towards young teens at first too. However, after awhile, you begin to notice a lot of adult stuff in there too, like Mineta being a lecherous little kid (And I found that hilarious). As for Demon Slayer, I'm just not that into it so far. I'm 8 episodes in and it just seems like a regular anime with regular anime tropes & cliches. Nothing about it really sticks out or feels unique. To add to it, it's pretty much just another vampires/Dracula anime. Yeah yeah, they are demons, but the only thing setting these demons apart from vampires is that they devour people instead of just sucking their blood. They are still created by an original demon (A Dracula) who turns people into them. I've never been into vampire or zombie stuff much. I know that anime, and particularly shonen, always have abilities or powers that are nonsensical... but when those powers are both corny and cliche AND are used as plot armor (Yugioh's Heart of the Cards?), it's a mark of poor or lazy writing. That said, this is the case with the "opening thread" and the protagonists uncanny ability to smell his way to or through anything. This guy can smell your underwear and tell you what you ate on November 8th of 2012. It's honestly the epitome of a LAME superpower. The show isn't that bad and I intend to keep watching, but after my friends hyped this show up like it was another Attack on Titan , I'm fairly disappointed.
