Love it, how can anyone hate the opening with "Tank!" playing and a cute shot of a Corgi?
No signs of Edward. Not looking too good!
The showrunner said that fans of Edward will be delighted when they watch the show, so she's definitely still involved. She doesn't show up in the anime until episode 9, and the Netflix series is only set for 10 episodes, if they're aiming for another season, than maybe Ed will join near the end of the season and be added into the credits for season two. Or she'll just be added whenever she joins the cast if they're only intended a one & done.
Which they might be, I have no idea on this because tbh, I wasn't expecting this adaption to cover the same episodes as the anime series because apparently I forgot the definition of "adaption". But the OP had plenty of scenes to classic episodes, including Pierrot le Fou, who appears in episode 20 of the anime, so maybe they're just picking and choosing their favourites.
The intro does feel empty without Ed, but it also just screams to me that they're leaving space to easily add her in later.
I love it and that they used the original song. I know a lot of people are shitting on this and say the actors don't fit the characters (especially the race change on Jet), but I'm looking forward to this.
Fun fact, John Cho stated in a interview that he wasn't going to sign on to the project if Yoko Kanno (the composer) wasn't involved in this adaption. I think they were allows intended to involve her, I don't think they got her on board because of Cho, but I think it's cool that Cho clearly cares about Bebop enough to only get involved if perhaps the most defining aspect of the series was involved.
