The Kurdistani region of Iraq is gorgeous, and the people are amazing there, it's nothing like the Iraq shown in the media time and time again. I'm sure the area of Afghanistan he went to is likely the same. Both countries have some incredible parts to them.
I have watched his videos before. He does a good job. Completely forgot about the channel.
I feel like the reason people believe certain things and think certain things of other countries or even their own countries is because they have never been anywhere else and experienced other cultures, good or bad.

This is absolutely true. People get fixated on "well I'm from here, I live therefore it has to be the best place on earth" and they forget other places exist, other places have other ideals, and other places might be far more accommodating than where you're from.
