It just now occurred to me: Yamcha makes it to the finals of all three tournaments and then gets completely rekt and embarrassed in the first match, every single time.
I will give him partial credit that he was caught off guard by that and it could have happened to any of them.I pointed this out before. He’s also the first to die against Vegeta and Nappa and the only one to die against a Saibaman.
No one counts Yajirobe. I shouldn't have even counted Chiaotzu. He’s the third weakest, if we count both Yajirobe and Chaozu.
You can only really discredit him for turning his back on the Saibaman, but in all fairness, he was the first one to fight one of them, so he couldn't fully know anything about them. The opponent looked finished, so he gloated, and he got caught instead- But as you said, this not only could've happened to any of them, but WOULD'VE happened to any of them had they gone up to bat first. I remember Krillin himself saying something to that effect while looking at Yamcha's dead body, "That would've been me if I had gone first", or whatever.I will give him partial credit that he was caught off guard by that and it could have happened to any of them.
I don't explicitly hate Yamcha or think he's weak (even if he is the second weakest Z Fighter), but Toriyama just seems to hate him.
Definitely. As much as we like to make fun of it, it 100% could have easily been Krillin in that moment. I think the reason we don't cut him slack is because he got really cocky about it.You can only really discredit him for turning his back on the Saibaman, but in all fairness, he was the first one to fight one of them, so he couldn't fully know anything about them. If it was anybody else, it'd be sad to everybody, lol.Definitely. As much as we like to make fun of it, it 100% could have easily been Krillin in that moment. I think the reason we don't cut him slack is because he got really cocky about it.
I actually really liked him in the Cell Saga, even if he did virtually nothing (though props to him and Tien for defending Goku). I don't hate his personality so much in that particular era. But Krillin is definitely my favourite, with respect to Tien when he decides he's just going to try and get crap done on his own.I think it's funny that Yamcha has gone from a community punching bag to a beloved fan character, and now being somewhere between the two.
I've been a big Yamcha fan since I first watched DB, and it was probably just cause he had a cool design and a cool attitude. Even if he never seemed to win in Z, he was my favorite character for a long, long, time. Probably helped that he had long hair like I used to, too. Toriyama: <forgets Launch exists and sidelines the humans>Considering he is just a normal pleb human, he is impressive but soon as you throw the rest into the mix he just ends up looking weak.
To be fair to him, he can still beat up "the world's strongest man"
I liked Launch cause her power was being bipolarToriyama: <forgets Launch exists and sidelines the humans>
Also Toriyama: <deems it necessary to keep one of the most annoying characters around>
