While I think he was annoying in the Cell Games, he was my favorite supporting character in the Boo Saga by far. I would go as far as to say that he saved that Saga with some of his gag moments as well as just supporting the Z Fighters in general.

If not for his annoying first impression in the Cell Games, I'd rate him a 5/5 in the poll.

Good but not great. I don't think he is a terrible character. He had some really funny moments. He was a good example of an annoying character who was entertaining.

He's a standard filler character, nothing more. Don't like him at all in the Cell saga, even as a parody of Macho Man and Hulk Hogan. He's tolerable in the Buu saga, but even then...nah. For the most part he's Videl's moronic father in my mind, and that's it.

One thing I also like about him is that he acts as a cover for the Z Fighters when they're fighting villains.

For me there's nothing likeable about him. He was obnoxious during Cell Saga and nothing could ever bring him justice afterwards. That ship has sailed for me. I don't get the point in making a dislikeable character and then force people to sympathize with him the next saga.

So yeah he's a bad joke.

He definitely became likable to me in the Boo saga. Great comedic relief. What was also awesome was how he formed a relationship with Boo. He was even smart enough to realize that Boo good could change. And of course, the final thing, was when the battle with Kid Boo was going on and the Earthlings didn't believe it...he snapped his followers into shape and got their help. At that point, it didn't matter who they thought was going to beat Boo...as long as it was done. I thought that was quite honorable.

There's an argument to be made that he's the most important character in the Buu Saga, and I think he's great in the Buu Saga. His relationship with Buu and his popularity saving the day are both pretty great. He kind of functions as the thematic core of that arc, even though I think Vegeta's side of stuff is the strongest in the Buu Saga. Outside of the Buu Saga, he ranges from meh to annoying, so I can't say I'm a big fan of his character. The filler episode in Super where some aliens want to fight him or something was actually painful to sit through but I have enough good will towards his Buu Saga appearance to forgive most of that (it helps that he doesn't appear too frequently).

He definitely lost his appeal in Super - he just doesn't fill the same roles as before. It also doesn't help that the Boo-Hercule dynamic changed. Boo is more like a little brat in Super and was way more likeable in Z.

Hercule was annoying at the start, but I thought that is just how his character was meant to be, a pompous, self absorbed ego maniac who had convinced himself that he lived in the bubble of invincibility because he was the martial arts champion. It didn't help his cause that the fans just lapped it all up and couldn't see a fault in him, even though there were many starring people right in the face. The Cell Games gave him a reality check of where he stood, but it also I think brought out the real character that was within him during the Buu Saga, I think he was so caught up in his own hype, he was being something he wasn't naturally but didn't want that illusion to break....During Buu Saga you start to see the other depths in his personality, how he befriends Buu and ultimately is the one to help Goku get the energy he needed to defeat the villian. He basically completes his arc and for once helps to take down the real villian.
