I think this has been in the works since 2016 and nothing has been done about it yet. I think they will allow it so long as he doesn't directly earn from it.Hope he gets the chance to release it without takedown notices from Nintendo, because this looks absolutely incredible. Excellent work indeed!
Nintendo needs to chill out. They make so much money. Let fans be fans.I certainly hope so, but Nintendo have been quite litigious about other fan projects and remakes and whatnot. It'd be great if they'd ease off and just let them be, it's not like this hurts anyone or their profit margins, but it is Nintendo, so...
I could understand it if these people were selling these creations for big bucks, but most of them are fan projects released for free by people who just legitimately wanted to make something cool. So yeah, I get protecting your IPs, but at the expense of fans and their projects? Eh...I mean, it is a shame, but then again I get it though as to way they would do it. It is like the mod debate that Bethesda got themselves into like two or so years ago.
Yeah, that is the thing. I think it is a grey area and there really isn't a right or wrong answer.I could understand it if these people were selling these creations for big bucks, but most of them are fan projects released for free by people who just legitimately wanted to make something cool. So yeah, I get protecting your IPs, but at the expense of fans and their projects? Eh...
Like what Bethsada does with official mods? That's where a company like Nintendo should step up, allow these creations to be submitted to Nintendo themselves and then released on the eShop. Let creators get "Officially Sponsored" mods, make a few bucks for their work, and Nintendo benefits with their percentage of the sales, as well. Would be amazing to see that happen, however doubtful.
