One winning ticket was sold in Michigan for the $1 billion Mega Millions jackpot, making it the third-largest lottery prize in U.S. history.

The winning numbers drawn Friday are: 4, 26, 42, 50, 60 and a Mega Ball of 24. The winning ticket was purchased at a Kroger store in Novi, Michigan — a city about 8 miles northwest of Detroit, according to the Michigan Lottery website.

I don't play the lotto... Well, I have maybe played it like 5 times in my life. I never thought I would see one person winning 1 billion from this. I don't know what that is after taxes but I hope whoever won gets in touch with a lawyer right away and hides their identity.

I think most people who win a lot of money give some away. Even if it is just to friends and family to help out, that is good enough for me.
You've got to spread the wealth around. If I ever won I'd donate everything I didn't absolutely need, especially at this point in time with people losing things left and right and struggling to find work.

My state does not allow you to hide your identity. You have to agree to letting your name out and the town you're from when you claim your win. It's fucking stupid. They use the excuse that showing people from VA win is what helps get more people to play...which is complete and utter bull shit.

Can't you form a trust or a corporation, make yourself the sole agent of said trust or corporation, hide the list of directors and claim it as the trust or corporate name?

There is a lot one can do with that much money. It really makes me wonder why these million and billionaires who don't need it all just sit on it.
Not all of them do but enough do to make me question it. But it isn't my money to tell them what to do with it. :worry:

Agreed, makes me wish I'd had the wherewithal to start one of these companies back in the day, made billions and shown them how to do it properly. You can still be rich as hell, but you don't have to keep it all. How much can you possibly spend in one lifetime, even if you're a shopaholic? Take your life's needs worth, siphon the rest off to local charities, homeless shelters, medical research and so on. Hell, I'm sure most of it can be claimed back in taxes, right? That's probably how they do it...

You can, but it's a lot of extra work and I just think it's ridiculous that something that could potentially set someone up for harassment and danger would be allowed by a state government.

I think it's because these millionaires and billionaires have a lot of their worth tied up in investments and is not something they can just go off and spend. It's not that all that money is just sitting in their accounts, it's elsewhere.

I know. This is pretty much most of Elon Musk's wealth, and many others who own companies or businesses. It is all stock and investors. This is net value. I am just talking about people who sit on stacks of cash in the bank or in a vault and do nothing with it.

Well, it's dangerous to go all Scrooge McDuck and try diving into your coins man.

Agreed, but given the alternative, I'd take the extra work!

Yeah, a lot of them are cash poor a lot of the time, diversified into this, that and the next, but it's not like they can't pull a few million out here or there as they see fit, most of the time.

Set up for futures and lottery winnings. Nice!

(err...I'm assuming the F in NFA is futures...feel free to berate if I'm wrong!)
National Firearms Act. Items controlled under that law such as SBRs, SBS, and Silencers. You have to pay a tax and then it's registered to either you or a trust. So if I die it can stay in the trust without being taxed. If I did it as a person any heir would have to pay the tax again.

Ah, got it! Sensible precaution, for sure!
