There were some good episodes but it seems like they were trying a few new things and some were good, others weren't. It was far from a bad season but not quite as good as it has been in previous seasons. It is going on season 5 so it will either pick back up again are continue to slip down until they stop making them. Seems like most shows get a good 5 or 6 seasons and then things just kind of tank but we will see.

The writing style they switched to is similar to that of Family Guy, I believe. I heard they did this because a butt-load of episodes were ordered and it's hard to come up with ideas for that many episodes. Either way, I'm hoping things pick back up where they left off in Season 3.

They had more time to think these out and I don't think they were as rushed because COVID kind of slowed everything down so we will see.

I hope these new episodes are more thought out, their older ones were genius, and I hope the new ones have the same style of story and creativity.
They had more to play with in the beginning which makes sense because the characters were brand new but now that they established their personalities, it is harder to think of new ideas. This is the case for any kind of character development. You can only develop a character so far before it becomes repetitive.

That or the character has to evolve somehow. Think of South Park...one character that sticks out for evolution is Eric Cartman. He is definitely not the same Cartman I grew up watching.

Yeah, that is a good point. He used to be stupid and careless but they have written him to be smart and witty in the later seasons.

I think character evolutions are the best way about it. Rick and Morty have a weird relationship that I think have a lot of potential, maybe some new aspects or angles to it would really change the direction of the series, and make it interesting.
