Given the context of Dragon Ball, DBZ, and DBS - What age would you consider okay to watch?

I started watching DBZ when I was 12 I believe, I didn't watch Dragon Ball until I was in my 20's. I think when it was on Toonami, it was considered a teen show so it was geared mostly toward 13 to 17-year-olds. I feel like the age for this kind of content depends on the child's maturity level and understanding of programing/entertainment. I would say for most, 10 is probably the youngest age to start watching but this really depends as I said. What age would you consider to be okay to start watching this series?

DBS is obviously a bit different from Dragon Ball and DBZ as well. I would say Dragon Ball is the most mature, then DBZ, then Super. Super is VERY kid-friendly in comparison.

Yeah, I'd agree with 10 being about the bottom end of the scale. Have to start with DB, of course, so you do need to make sure they're at least a little emotionally mature so they can handle it.

If I had children or if my brother had children, I wouldn't allow them to get into the Dragon Ball franchise or Anime and Manga in general until they reach their double digits. Same with some video game franchises like The Legend Of Zelda, although I would let them play Mario and Pokemon at any age.

lol, everyone's saying double digits and when I watched the last episode of Z, I was nine . I still remember the day it aired, during Recess at Elementary School just thinking, "Man, my childhood ends today". I was like four when I started watching Dragon Ball Z. So I guess my answer would have to be four. I mean, if I had a kid, once they turn four I probably wouldn't sit them down in front of the TV, and be like "you're finally ready" but if my child expressed an interest in it at that point like I did in my youth, I'd tell them to the read the manga it's better.

I'm very liberal when it comes to this type of stuff, so I would say 6 or 7. The reason for this being that most children that age won't get scared from the blood since it's all animated. Also, the sexual content would just make the kids laugh like "Hi hi a butt".

For comparison, I played R rated games when I was like 6 or 7. I also know a lot of kids who watched horror movies at that age. And also, I know a bunch of 8 year olds that watch Dragon ball.

I think around 10 is ok. Some parts are pretty violent and DBZ has some pretty gory scenes, and (if you don't like that kind of stuff) some bad language. I remember a lot of "bastards" from Vegeta specifically. Personally, I think around 10 is acceptable. Besides the sooner they can witness greatness the better right?

My 6 year old daughter watched alongside us during our (My wife & I) last watch-through. We only made it through this Saiyan Saga this time, before I introduced my wife to Super (I watched Super before it was English dubbed and she doesn't like subbed anime. Just to note, she's already seen all of Z).

Anyway. My daughter actually likes it and I'm really not a believer that animated violence is the boogeyman for kids minds that everyone else thinks it is.

Hell, I have the Mortal Kombat 1-UP arcade machine and my daughter plays it occasionally. She's still a soft gentle girly girl... it's really not much of an influence. Not to mention that I played the hell out of some Mortal Kombat between the ages of 6 and 10 and I'm not a violent person.

That said, I don't think any of the Dragon Ball series' are problematic for kids to watch. In fact, the things they MIGHT pick up on would likely be the good stuff like the philosophies that are woven into the characters stories.

Watching with kids when they are younger is ideal. I think for many kids, watching this under the age of 10 is fine but there are plenty out there who get the wrong ideas and creative misjudgments and end up hurting themselves or their friends.

That being said, I grew up playing MK as well and cried when I accidentally broke a bird egg as a child. It really comes down to the personality and a parent's role in using better judgment. Some kids shouldn't be playing this kind of stuff or watching these kinds of programs. Sadly, most parents who know they have this kind of child let them do it anyway. This is why the age of 10 was my choice. Most kids past the age of 10 are smart enough not to do stupid things based on a cartoon they watched.

You make a good point. Troubled kids are more prone to be influenced by that kind of thing.

Depends i think the original Dragonball can be nice for kids as long as you dont have a problem with the Sex jokes!

Although uncensoured z is more for over 14 year olds!
Same with gt

i guess if you can live with the fact that super is nonsensical without context you can watch it at 10-12 years!

Most of this would go over a kid's head. They have done plenty of this kind of thing with American cartoons where there is adult humor laced in it.

Would it go over most kid's heads? Isn't most of the sex jokes in Dragon Ball like nudity or Goku patting people's crotches to find out if they have balls or not? If anything, I think kids should watch it because it's educational. I wish I learned about the differences of the sexes from Kid Goku.

There is only one bit where they show boobs though, from what I remember and it is so fast that you almost miss it. I'd rather my kid see cartoon boobs than real ones though. And Goku's little pener doesn't have any detail drawn to it, so that gets a pass from me as well. lol
