Dragon Ball Super ...so are Ribrianne, Kakunsa and Roasie a poke at Sailor Moon?

Going back to watch the ToP again, are they meant to be a poke at Sailor Moon or are they actually supposed to be good characters?

(AKA "are they glitter force 2.0 discussion thread")

Also, obligatory: Yachaina!

I don't watch Super, but I wouldn't be surprised, since Dragon Ball and Sailor Moon are both famous classic Manga.

I'm thinking of getting into Sailor Moon, but I also hear the plot holes in it tend to be even worse and more apparent than the plot holes found in the later stages of Naruto and Bleach.

They are a poke or joke at the Magical Girl genre as a whole

Pretty much and Sailor Moon overall is alright nothing too great, but not too bad either

Fair point, there are plenty of magic girl properties out there. It's like Pride Squad being a knock on Power Rangers and Sentai shows as a whole.

Just seemed like a really funny way of paying homage to shows like Sailor Moon with them all being so outlandish.

Honestly, a lot of manga artist are friends or are fans of the others works so they may do a homage or even a tongue in cheek one. That is why the giant monkey demon spirit in Naruto is called Son Goku.

Fair point, it's great when there's that level of comaraderie in an industry rather than pure competition.

Not only Sailor moon. Ribrianne and her squad makes fun of magical girls in general. They are probably mostly inspired by an anime about magical girls who are also idols as Ribrianne's squad are idols (I can't remember the name of that anime, though)

But they also have the whole "power of love" thing which Sailor moon also has. So they're definitely a parody of magical girls.

Yeah, it's one area where you have to credit DB, they did a great job of parodying quite a few different anime and types of anime. made it fun going through the ToP and seeing the varieties.
