Apparently, most people did not like the film. It got better scores from women and girls but scored terribly with men and boys.

Given the context of the game and sports being more of a guy thing when it comes to the majority, they really failed this one.
 
I still don't understand the why here...I mean, yeah, we're remaking everything that used to be popular, but...come on...not a surprise this one's failing.

The reason the first one was a success wasn't down to MJ's acting or fame even, it was down to it being a product of the times. Bugs Bunny and all those characters were very popular and something like that in the '90s was mindblowing to do. Now, it is not impressive at all. And LeBron will never be what MJ was in terms of being idolized as a hero.

Agreed, if you wanted to replicate that in the 2020s you'd need like...VR Paw Patrol or something...kids would be all over that. Or VR Baby Shark.

True, absolutely true. Maybe replace Lebron with Bugs Bunny and have him feature in an actual NBA game as a hologram. That might have worked better.
