Dragon Ball Z What if Piccolo never trained Gohan?

Early on in Dragon Ball Z, Gohan became a prime target. Unleashing his Saiyan power against Raditz, Piccolo decided it would be a good idea to train him so they would have more power on their side when Vegeta and Nappa showed up to Earth. The first time we see Gohan entering the battlefield was against Nappa. His presence not being there likely would have cost some time for Goku to arrive in time.

What do you think would have happened had Piccolo never trained Gohan?

This will take awhile to really get into but I do enjoy looking back on what if scenarios.

He transformed while under Pic's training so this may have happened at another point. Maybe he was trying to get to Goku during his fight with Vegeta and he caught a glimpse of the lunar beam (I can't recall Vegeta's move) and transformed so we'd have two apes fighting each other. I think the outcome would have been the same there but where things would really change is when the group goes to Namek seeing as Gohan likely wouldn't be joining them with no training. Who would go in his place then? A lot to consider here. I will have to come back when I am more awake.

That is actually a good point. I didn't think about the possibility of Gohan still transforming. I guess he would have to fly out there with Icarus which wouldn't be unlikely. As or the trip to Namek, it would still be Bulma and Krillin but because the others aren't on earth... Maybe Roshi would go?

I think Roshi would be the only one that could actually go. I couldn't see him going though unless Bulma somehow "tempted" him lol

It might just end up being Bulma and Krillin alone.

I don't think anyone else could have gotten away with training Gohan with Chi Chi around. I also think Piccolo would have taken a lot longer to convert, if he ever would at all.

He was already on Goku's side at the beginning of Z. I think Gohan just got him back in touch with the kindness of his own race. Namekians are a peaceful race after all.

Gohan wouldn't have grown into a fighter until many years later and Piccolo would be more of an outsider amongst the other Z fighters.

Then Gohan probably wouldn't partake in the fight against the Saiyans. Without Gohan in, Vegeta might actually stand a chance against the Z fingers.

Goku would have trained Gohan. They would have to do it where Chi-Chi wouldn't see them though. And when Chi-Chi eventually found out, she would be furious and fight them.

If Piccolo wouldn't have been there, Gohan would have become a great scholar...oh wait..nevermind.

Seriously though, it did buy Goku more time, but Gohan really didn't contribute much to the Saiyan saga. He finally grew a set in the Namek/Frieza saga and I think that's where Piccolo's training benefitted him the most.
