Dragon Ball Super Is Goku more stupid in Super?

Sorry if it's already been created and going from the page 1 threads it hasn't, and I can't be assed to go looking in the 25 pages worth thread we have.

To me, Goku's silly and clueless nature has been more pronounced, flanderized, and the nuances of his character been made less apparent.
 
This has been discussed as part of another thread, but I don't remember where. But yeah, I think the general consensus is that Goku was turned into a complete moron in Super. They have drifted from being naive to just idiotic. He also has become less of a hero and more of a selfish cunt, IMO. He always had both of those traits, but they have been diminished/enhanced, respectively.

I agree. He had silly moments before, but it was more nuanced. Now this aspect of him seems to be present in almost every scene he's apart of. The original Goku was more of awkward socially, not flat out silly and stupid. There's also a fine contrast between Goku's reactions in the original and super manga, concerning similar instances that a buddy of mine brought up that I think perfectly represents how less nuanced he's as well... Kuririn asked in the Cell arc whether Goku was happy or worried with this new threat and he answered with a "both" with a timid smile on his face. When faced with the same question by Kuririn in Super he opens up a smile showing all his teeth and says "super excited!!"... perfectly showing his more remarkable lack of maturity.
 
He has always been childish. I think this ties into his head trauma as a child. I mean in Super, we find out he is grossed out at the thought of kissing his own wife... Yet has two children. For as brave and as good of a fighter he is, he is pretty stupid. I think they played it up more in Super though because they were marketing it more for kids than adults and Goku being stupid gets laughs from kids.
 
Here's what happened in my head. The writers for DBS watched DBZA and decided that they liked MasakoX's depiction of Goku as a loveable idiot. Then they tried to copy it for themselves but executed it horribly. It works in a comedic parody but not something that doesn't share the same overall tone. In Super Goku should be a naive man-child not a complete moron.

Yeah, I've barely watched Super and it's obvious they've turned Goku from naive and childlike to stupid and almost annoying. Shame, because it ruins the character, but it does make sense for the series to attract a new audience.

They cut it out towards the end when the Universe Survival Arc begins. Goku goes back to his old self. I don’t know what made them abandon the personality change abruptly but it was a welcome change.

Well that's good to hear, actually makes me want to push through and watch Super more so I can see the old Goku come back.
 
he is i reserched it. (this is one of the reasone i hate super) hes not like dbz goku dbz goku wouldnt do stupied stuff like super goku. especially not forget sensu beans!!! and he dosent underestimate eneimes. heres what i say: GO DIE SUPER GOKU AND DONT COME BACK. sorry had to.

That's marketing for you :gulp:

Vegeta became more wholesome and Goku more stupid.
 
Goku has a different personality in Super.

He seems more like Vegeta in Z and it seems like Vegeta is becoming more like Goku in Z. Especially if you look at this last manga issue of Goku x Moro and see how he approaches things whereas Vegeta has started to work on Spirit Control so he's not as hot headed anymore.

In DBZ I remember him wanting to train in order to protect Earth and his friends, but in Super it feels like he just wants to train for the sake of training, not caring about anything else or any other alternate motive. He's never serious anymore and it pulls from the tension sadly.

Yeap. Kid Goku knew when to be serious and when to be goofy. Adult Goku in Super has regressed.
