  1. What defining factor played a role in Vegeta becoming a hero?

Nah, I felt he was better when his main goal was to obtain immortality with the Dragon Balls, not surpass Goku. He deservedly died a dog's death when Freeza killed him. I dislike it when mass murderers are forced into becoming good guys just because they have a lot of fans.
  2. What defining factor played a role in Vegeta becoming a hero?

To be honest, I think Vegeta only really overstayed his welcome after the Freeza arc. His death at the hands of Freeza felt fitting, even though Freeza himself was only created to replace Vegeta as the main villain.
  3. Who Was More At Fault?

The whole arc was Goku's fault for not stopping Gero from making the androids, anyway. Actually, he could have stopped Cell from becoming Perfect altogether if he simply trained in the ROSAT with Gohan before Vegeta and Trunks did. Not like he needed to tell Vegeta about the ROSAT, anyway...

He was originally supposed to be killed by Goku in the Saiyan arc, but Toriyama kept him in the plot due to his popularity. So yeah lol
