Ten people, including one police officer who responded to the scene first, have been killed following a shooting at King Sooper's Supermarket in Boulder, Colorado. A suspect has been arrested, but his identity has not been released at this point in time. This marks the seventh mass killing in the US this year, and follows a lull period in 2020 during the pandemic in which mass killings were the lowest they had been in over a decade. The officer killed was identified as Eric Talley, 51, who had been with the Boulder Police Department since 2010. The identity of the nine other victims is being withheld at this time as family members are still being notified. Witness video posted online shows one person on the floor inside the store and two more outside on the ground, with gunshots being heard in the background.

I'm not going to jump in on the gun control debate, but on that video I will say -- I fucking love his beard wrapping around behind his ears like it's a clip on...

I won't demonize guns or gun culture, because American is its' own thing in that regard and I'll always be an outsider looking in because it's not the culture I grew up in, so it's not my place to say this or that about guns in the US. I'm just sick of people using them for this. This needs to stop, and it needs to stop soon. How? No clue, same as everyone else, but there needs to be some way to stop Dick T. Head walking into a place full of innocent people and firing away because his dick doesn't work anymore, or because he had a bad day, or because he thinks he can send some stupid message by taking out "them people" or etc, etc. No matter what your stance on guns, gun culture, gun control, responsible gun ownership, etc...events like this are flat out wrong.

As for what happens next, it'll be the same story as after every other mass shooting. One side will get up in arms about gun control, the other will get up in arms about their rights being taken away, the same old platitudes will be passed around ("this is a terrible tragedy, we send our thoughts, we need to act, but now isn't the time to talk about this...") and then nothing will happen, again. Lather, rinse, repeat the next time this happens.

And surprise surprise it's not a white male this time. It's a mentally ill Syrian. That argument just fell apart for them real quick. As for you being an outsider, you're not. You live in the free-est state in the union for firearms and you're lawfully allowed to buy, possess, and carry them. Easy peasy to fall into that culture and make it your own.
