At least 13 people were killed Tuesday when a Ford Expedition crammed with 25 adults and children was slammed by a tractor-trailer east of El Centro in Imperial County.

It was not immediately clear how fast the vehicles were going, or whether the SUV had observed a stop sign before heading into an intersection along State Route 115 at 6:15 a.m. near the town of Holtville, about 10 miles north of the border, said the California Highway Patrol.

Those killed, who included the driver of the SUV, ranged in age from 20 to 55, and minors as young as 16 were injured, said Omar Watson, chief of the highway patrol’s border division.

This is sad and I have got to put some of the blame on California here. Mexicans would not be crowding into a vehicle to cross the border illegally if Cali didn't make it so welcoming. No one will say whether they were illegal workers/immigrants so I am going to assume this is the case because California typically doesn't like reporting on this stuff.

These kinds of cars are meant to carry 6 to 8 people max and they have 25 people in one. I can't imagine the seating situation taking place in there.

They were illegal entrants being trafficked by the smugglers they paid to get them across. Local pd tried to initiate a stop for traffic violation when they fled and caused the crash. Border Patrol arrived after the fact to assist. This is one of the dark sides of smuggling that people who are for unchecked migration don't understand. The human toll of innocent people being killed just to earn more money.

Disgusting tactics of smugglers. Can't believe they could get anywhere near that amount of people into an SUV like that, it's bad enough they cram people into tractor trailers, but this...I hope the smugglers survived so they can be prosecuted fully.

This kind of crap needs to be taken seriously in states that border Mexico or it will just keep happening. Claiming a wall and border security is racist does nothing to protect the children who are often abused and raped all the way to the country and then thrown out like a piece of crap. It is not about race, it is about protected lives on both sides and I wish people who don't know how to stop feeling things would understand that.
