A Certain Club Penguin Server...

I only just heard of this. I never was part of this Club Penguin game, though I have heard of it over the years online in passing. I didn't know Disney was involved with it at one point.
So this one server is still running using the name and similar style of game... It is basically a pedo ring of getting nudes from underage kids (as per allegations).



This ties into that thread I made about getting kids off social media. Parents need to wake the f up because there are a lot of SICK people out there looking to take advantage of them through sites like this one. I don't know how Disney let something like this slide either, especially knowing the allegations of the people who run this site. I have some pretty dark opinions about Disney when it comes to children (I don't trust them to say the least) but from public backlash alone, you'd think they would have done something.

These kinds of topics need to be talked about with adults, especially those who have children. The internet is not a place for a kid to be spending unsupervised time on. I hope something is done about this because it damaged lives to experience this kind of stuff.

Honestly they need to setup fully monitored Under-16 servers, and those monitoring them need to be fully vetted. Children should not be able to spend time alone online. Playing local games with no connection? No problem, go for it, but online games they should be monitored! Parents need to be far more aware of what's going on in their kids' lives, there should be no chance for something like this happening.

As much as I'd like there to be some kind of system set up to monitor activity on kids, that would be a breach of privacy via the state or general government. Parents just need to be parents again. We have so much technology these days that general tasks are often done faster and easier so a parent really has no excuse. There are plenty of programs to help protect kids as well under the parent's watchful eye. I feel like too many parents are just either misinformed, lazy, or simply don't care.

We live in a different time now as well and no one really talks about online dangers like they should. There should be classes in school as well as parents having "the talk" with a kid when it comes to internet safety to explain these things and it just ain't happening.

Strictly speaking sites are able to enforce their own terms of service and can collect whatever information they see fit so long as it is outlined in the COPPA and TOS of that site, so strict moderation or monitoring of activity on specialized under-13 servers would not breach anything, ultimately. Granted, it would be a pain to staff and difficult to maintain over time, but yeah, ultimately it would be a lot easier to have parents that actually parent. Maybe require parental accounts for all u-13s and send daily reports to them, instead. Copies of private messages, account activity and so on. Anything out of the ordinary pops up, they'd have no excuse not to know.

Good! I still don't like Disney but I do appreciate them doing something about this.
