I'm not looking to turn this into a gun debate or anything like that, I like that our police in the UK don't all carry guns (I do think more of them should be armed with tazers, however), but that's neither here nor there for this thread. I just think it's amazing what a lot of cops in the UK (and other countries where they don't all carry arms) go through on a regular basis, even some funny bits, and I just think they're worth a look. Brave to run into some of these situations the way they do.

Officer assaulted by man he's arresting:

Officer breaks finger as suspect breaks away from him (funny: gets a lift from a cab)

One of the knife attacks on London Bridge, unarmed officers AND civilians going after knife wielding lunatics.

Driver attacks officer with a machete in an attempt to resist arrest.

My heart goes out to them because they're in a dangerous environment without all the tools that could be used. I agree that verbal judo should be implemented straight away and violence as a last resort, but man if I have a subject with a weapon coming at me. They're getting melted. You get the command to drop it once maybe two times if there's a sizable distance. After that peace be with you.

It would be nice if more of them at least carried tazers, but it's amazing just what they're willing to go through to protect their fellow officers, the public, and yes, themselves. Absolutely incredible some of the scenes.

What is sad is that even without guns, criminals still gonna criminal. They just find other weapons or get guns illegally. You can ban guns, knives, and anything sharp and they will still find a means to use a tool to intimidate their way over other people. Pieces of shit.

Absolutely. If they're determined to cause harm, they're going to find a way. It's sad, but that's the line people always want to flirt with, for whatever reason.

The blue wave is real. I've seen it, been a part of it, and it warms my heart to know that a fellow badge will wreck a bad guy's shit if I'm in need.
Yeah, my mother was a police officer back in the day (Edinburgh Metropolitan Police Force, WPC7 A Division) and she says the culture was more or less the same back then, everyone was there for each other if in need. The sort of camaraderie you need in that line of work.

I think this is kind of how the "bad cops" are bred though. Like you treat other police officers like family and if you are aware of them being racially abusive or insensitive, you are more likely to turn a blind eye to stuff like this. It isn't just racial stuff either, there are dirty cops who pocket drugs and everything. I am grateful every day for what these men and women do but allowing pieces of shit to wear a uniform should not be a thing.

Double edged sword more or less. You should definitely have the integrity to call them out on their bull shit if you see it and the courage to do what is right to uphold the public trust. If you turn a blind eye then you're poisoning the well. I'm not saying dime them out or be a whistle blower, but if you need to check them one on one to start so be it.

Agreed. I can't speak to the culture from the inside, since I'm not a part of it, but you should still have your own morals. If you see something wrong, act on it, whether calling it out on a small scale or taking it to the official channels, you can't let the bad apples run riot. I'd like to think there are fewer of the bad apples nowadays thanks to people having cameras on them 24/7 and calling out the bad when they see it, but who knows for sure? There needs to be camaraderie, it needs to exist for them to care about public safety and have each others' backs, but not cover up for each other.

I was reminded of Dubai's lavish fleet of police cars recently, and it made me think of Britain's attempt to modernize their fleet...figured I'd slap this onto this thread, since it's about UK police...

British police: We need more aggressive police vehicles for speed deterrent.

British police: We need more energy efficient police vehicles for environmental protection.

Have your local police forces done anything ridiculous with their fleet?
