Wonder if anyone else watched this anime...
Anime -- We're going to have three young female protagonists, who gain weapons and grow stronger to become the champions necessary to beat the evil priest.

Magic Knight Rayearth, it's actually not half bad as an anime, not ground-breaking, either, just...decent.
I remember watching this. There was another one I remember as well where the main character was a female and she wore like next to nothing and looked anorexic. I am guessing it was an '80s anime. I actually still have the video game that came out for this anime on the Sega Saturn, it's a fun game! I got re-acquainted with the anime because it turned up on Prime Video so I've been re-watching it these past few days. It's worth a watch, but like I said, pretty much expect a Sailor Moon sort of vibe mixed with a couple of other series.
I do sort of remember the one you're talking about, I think I watched it, as well, but the name is absolutely gone from my brain...going to have to do some digging on that one!

Not, not that one. I watched that one. The one I am thinking of I am fairly certain was an adult anime but I can't place the name or where I watched it.

I found it. It was not an actual "80s anime" like I thought. It was from the early '90s and I believe it aired on MTV. It was called Æon Flux. I know for certain I should not have been watching this as a kid lol
Yes! This is absolutely the one in my mind, as well. Watched this as a youngster and had no idea what I was getting into, and I forgot they made it into a film...need to check that out one of these days. "What mum, it's just a cartoon!"

Yeah, I see some of the comments on it, not fantastic, but just like Ghost in the Shell, I feel like I need to watch it because of the anime
