Dragon Ball Z Anyone ever wonder what the construction of 17 and 18 was like?

So, after a long hiatus away from anything Dragon Ball, I started re-watching Dragon Ball and now am in the android saga of DBZ... Now, I've abandoned dubs completely with anime in general, so things are quite different in the subbed version of DBZ. They started off calling them cyborgs but now are using the term 'Artificial Human'.

So that makes me wonder... what was changed? With 19 and 20, you can see they had mostly robotic parts and their bones were replaced with some sort of metal. Yet, we know that 18 is capable of reproduction. So... in what ways were the reconstructed? Was a brand new skeleton built and their organs and other tissues used to eh... "re-sleeve"?

And the most important question of all... can Kuririn make 18 cum? Or can anyone else (in case he's a little guy down there, too)?

Weren't they originally human and just enhanced? Maybe they are sort of like Wolverine is in a sense where they still have functioning organs but are much faster, stronger, etc. Like they were injected with something into their bones and such.

I never gave it much thought. I misremembered Krillin wishing her to be "human" for the longest time lol

Yes they were.

Perhaps. I don't know if it was ever explained. I only have the androids/cyborgs that were destroyed as reference. They all had fully mechanical parts. 16 was different... he was never human. But 17 and 18... how do you make bones and skin that strong?

Well, he did... but she already was, basically. Why that wasn't in Shen Long's power is strange, since he can bring people back to life, but can't rebuild their bodies? But we all know that Toriyama (RIP) came up with shit as he went along.

I was going to bed when I responded. I looked into this a bit more.

So from what I understand, both are humans and have human organs. That is how she is able to give birth.

Both had self-deletion devices which were bombs near the heart. This is what Krillin had removed with the wish, right?
Both has spinal implants that would act as a kill switch to deactivate them and basically paralyze them at the push of a button.

Everything beyond that is left up to interpretation and guessing. They are cyborgs, not actual androids. I think this got lost in translation. Android implies they are not human. Which never made sense since we know they were twins that grew up together and were later "experimented" on.

I am guessing everything that was done to them was via cellular/DNA manipulation and tech implants.

I think Gero likely used enhancements, not replacements, meaning her organs, bones, and tissues stayed mostly natural. I'd say he reinforced her cells to make her durable, and added a self-sustaining energy core for unlimited stamina. Her structure is still human, but boosted to handle more. So, her strength and resilience come from cybernetic upgrades that don’t mess with her natural functions, letting her keep human abilities like reproduction. I imagine Gero focused on enhancements that work with her biology, not against it.

Btw, I can answer basically any questions if it's only centered towards DB Original manga (no movies, no GT, no Super, only the original manga with its 500+ chapters. I'm a Dragon Ball master, got a phD on it approved by another huge God King Dragon Brother 😎

Gero most likely replaced most of their organs with artificial ones and kept whatever organs that didn’t need any change like their reproductive organs as we saw with #18 still being able to get pregnant.

The other thing I was thinking about while watching the show... It doesn't seem in 17 and 18's best interest to destroy the planet they did in the future. 18 seemed materialistic and 17 was all about having fun. Not going to be able to do much when everyone is dead and there's nothing left to do.
