So he had a stalker show up at his house and decided to bring out a gun. He is well within his rights to defend himself and his home BUT he should have never fired off a warning shot into the sky. Those can come down miles away and kill someone or hit something and ricochet. It has happened more than it should which is why doing this is against the law.

I'm fine with him defending himself, he's dealt with more than his fair share of crap over the years, but yeah...don't fire a gun in the air.

Which is why the rest of the world will never understand why guns are still a thing in the US.

America is too crazy for guns but also America is too crazy to be without them. Basically, mental health issues and criminals cause the issues as well as people being stoopid but because of those people, it is good to be armed.

The only reason you should own a gun is for self defense though.

Well, you wouldn't need a gun with nobody's gonna come with one after you.
There are LOADS of guns in the US that are not registered. If they took away guns from the general public, loads of criminals would still have them regardless. The time to get rid of guns has long passed. They need to focus on cutting out illegal imports, getting unregistered guns off the streets, and screening mental health of gun owners. But instead, people would rather scream "ITS MY RIGHT!" and "GUNS KILL PEOPLE! BAN THEM!" which solves nothing. Tis the way of the US... Extremes with no solutions.

I think it should be apparent to most people now that the gov't can't or won't protect you. There are marauding mobs of people in some localities and more often than not the police can't or are unwilling to stop them. It's all fine to sit in the safety of your home with your 21st century comforts, but at some point you're going to have to ask yourself, "What do I do when they come for me?" That goes for not only people in this country but everywhere around the world. The gov't doesn't give a shit about you and views you as a commodity to gets votes to stay in power.

For anyone who is going to bring the argument about the gov't being more powerful and having all this military hardware, I shall direct your attention to Afghanistan. We're the most powerful military the world has ever seen with the best technology and training. Yet we spent 20 years fighting guys in pajamas and sandals who wield AKs that are left over from the Soviet invasion in the late 70s through the 80s. So if you need to defend yourself from a mob or a tyrannical gov't I think you have a good chance.

If you live in a US city or near one, it is just a good idea to have protection really. A majority of the crime, gun-owning criminals, and disasters happen within the cities. Given what has happened this year alone, gun sales have gone up because people can see that the police are too afraid to do anything and the government is too busy arguing to help.
