Nintendo never broke from exclusives and always made sure there was a standard met for them.
Both Sony and Microsuck moved away from exclusives and quality and they are feeling it big time.
The only way I can see Microsoft becoming anywhere close to competition with Nintendo is if they make Call Of Duty Xbox exclusive. But in no way are they surpassing Mario or Pokemon as franchises.
COD can still sell but people lose interest within 3 months with recent titles. They would not only have to make it exclusive, they would need to make the story and gameplay as good as it used to be like 15 years ago.
They would have to start from the ground up as well, instead of recycling the same crap over and over again.

Well I hate to say that since everyone has been talking about making titles exclusive again but I for one am excited for Halo to be on Playstation. I hope they release all the titles for Playstation.
