Back in the DBZ day, the z boys were looking all kinds of swole. Sometimes it was kind of ridiculous during powerup scenes but I enjoyed it. I think it added more to their character, strength, and performance as fighters. They needed to stand out and look a lot stronger than standard people in the show. They did away with a lot of this in DBS. They toned down the figures of both Goku and Vegeta considerably while making Vegeta grow in height which I still find a bit funny. The size difference is most noticeable in their necks, biceps, and chests. They also had thicker legs. Now they are more lean/trim and less bulky, even when fighting. I would imagine this is easier to animate so maybe that is why they chose to slim them down? I don't know.

Do you prefer the old body style or the new one?

I prefer the old style. It made Dragon Ball be put in the same vein as other Shonen with masculine characters like Hokuto No Ken and Jojo's Bizarre Adventure.

I'm very fond of the old style, but I kind of prefer the new look. They're not walking masses of muscle, but you can tell they're in shape by what definition shows. The new style kind of harkens back to Dragon Ball for me which is nostalgic.
