I wanted to hear what other people think about the dubs name for certain attacks, i get some being simplified like the Solar Flare, but I always preferred Makankosappo over Special Beam Cannon, or Mafuba over Evil Containment Wave. I always thought i gave it more depth than the dub names.

I grew up with the dubbed version so that is all I know and am familiar with. The Japanese versions of all anime and manga will always have more depth. The English versions are often simplified and dumbed down or changed entirely to make them easy to understand and match our culture.

I mean Special Beam Cannon is just a terrible name even the german Spezial Höllenspiral (special Hell spiral) Sounds better!

In general Keep a lot of the names japanese or translate them acuratly dont just change the name completly or you get (Schockwelle der alten ahnen)

The names/words used are in part decided by the people who translate and write out the scripts as well. Some stuff has been lost in translation in tons of anime series and manga, some worse than others.

My only issue with that is why keep the kamehameha or hakai how it is, just say the original name, hell piccolo says the mankakusappo in a few flash back so it isnt a pronunciation thing.

No idea, I don't know how they translate stuff or why they change things. Like Puar for example is a male but in the English dub, he is a female.

I prefer dub since that's what I grew up with. In all honesty, things like Makankasappo sound ridiculous if you're not used to Japanese (which was rather common in the 90s) that Special Beam Cannon sounds much cooler by comparison.

Destructo Disk is a bad-ass 90s kid cartoon attack name, and you can't change my mind.

Kamehameha is a name that was shared with the Hawaiian guy so as a localisation it makes sense. It's also easy to pronounce, which is a big deal when you have to say it every episode, and makes it easy for kids at home to pronounce too.

Hakai was after dubbing became contentious and Funimation obviously felt comfortable enough to maintain Super's script and names closer to the original. I believe they've also started pronouncing Kamehameha closer to the Japanese than the original western way.

Piccolo only says Mankakusappo in Kai, which is when they reverted a few of these things.

Having been rewatching everything in Japanese recently (currently at the part where Satan is about to befriend Boo... I'm actually liking the original Japanese names better.

The reason i didnt bring up destructo disk was because its actually a better name, i like the way kai used the original names when it was better and i forgor about kamehameha, though i do like how kai changes some of them back, some dont and it confuses me, and i definitely dont mean all of the name and hellzone grenade is to good a name to let go.

Also Speaking of dub or og attacks its weird how many people hate vegerot considering Vegetto only makes sense if you call goku KakarottO

I will always be referring to the fusion as Vegito as in (Vah-GEE-Toe) as it feels the most natural.

I don't mind either way. The ones that are different are cool to me, though I use the original ones since I've never watched anything other than the original Japanese anime and have read the manga. Never watched the dub. However, ppl who get picky and act annoyed at others using Funimation dub names are very stupid imo. I've seen this happening in other forums. I use MSSJ to refer to Goku and Gohan post RoSaT, in another forum I remember a poster came in saying "we have an official label in Daizenshuu as FPSSJ, so there is no need to use the fan-made MSSJ"... I mean, wtf lol. Did you get what I meant by MSSJ? If so, use the terminology you want, stop acting in a cringe way lulz. But there used to be more comments mocking ppl who used dub terminologies though it's already so overly recognized as a cringe attitude now that those people who'd criticize other posters for it on other forums (never here ofc, I mean other DB forums) don't even attempt it in anyway anymore.

I'm not saying its cringey to use the dub names because I get it and that's what most grew up on, and honestly I did too, I just preferred the og names for stuff, i respect others options its just a preference.

I know, I wasn't talking about you. I was just talking in general, I said in my post I had seen it a lot in other forums, it wasn't directed to anyone here.
