A father has been arrested in San Diego after taking his child to the zoo and passing through several protective barriers to deliberately and illegally enter the elephant enclosure with his child. He then dropped his 2 year-old child into the enclosure itself, though he retrieved the child before an angered elephant could charge either himself or the toddler. The father has now been arrested on charges of child endangerment and trespassing in a zoo enclosure. The 2 year-old child was unhurt in the incident. "Despite multiple barriers," the father "purposely and illegally trespassed into a habitat," San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance spokesman Andrew James said in a statement. Witnesses said it appeared the man tripped and dropped the child as he attempted to get close enough to take a picture with the an elephant. One of the elephants headbutted the barrier after the incident, apparently disturbed by the disruption to its' enclosure.

Can't say I blame police for charging him, it's a dumb thing to do that could have gotten his son killed or himself severely hurt. Was his intent vicious? No, not at all, but you don't go past the barriers at the zoo, they're there for a reason. So...time to pay up for that mistake.
