Dragon Ball Super Future Trunks vs Present Day Trunks in 780

Okay so the ToP takes place in 780. Future Trunks experiences Gohan dying in this same year of their timeline.

But Trunks in the present timeline, the one we are watching throughout the anime is still a child in 780 when he should be grown up.

I know Super is filled with stuff like this, inconsistencies and what not but this is a pretty big oversight on their part to be missing. Was this the case in the manga as well??

Little Trunks was 8 during the whole Majin Boo ordeal in Age 774. He would be 14 at this point, which is the same age the future Trunks was when Gohan died. They look different due to environment and lazy writing.
