He's referring to algorithmic manipulation. Facebook did the same thing to its users and caused a lot of people to end up with depression and anxiety because of the content they were being fed every day. There are studies on it and he (Mark) was taken to court over it.
And it’s has had the exact opposite effect on me. I been dealing with depression since like 2016. This app actually helps me with that. I can be having a shitty day, and I go on there and it helps me out greatly. Yeah it’s not the same for everyone I’m sure, and that’s fine. I just think it’s silly to call it that. All forms of social media can do that, but we aren’t out here banning all of them. We as Americans should have the freedom to choose if we want to use it or not. Just like people have the freedom to not use Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Reddit, or any other social media platform. All of them are harmful to an extent as well.
Yup and they can't be held liable cause it is a foreign company. It is banned from DC federal buildings for a reason. You are not allowed to have the app on your phone.
Yeah, but this is America? I’ve yet to see any of that on my for you page, at all. Have you actually ever used the app? Like legit all I ever see is racing, wrestling, comedy, and cats for like 98% of what I see. Lately it’s been people talking about the tiktok ban, but it’s because of how ridiculous and dumb the ban is. So I don’t see how it’s used in China has anything to do with the United States. Two totally different experiences.
That's because the algorithm thinks that's what you like. But if deviate from that, they'll change the algorithm.

Let's say your kid is 12, would you give your phone to him/her, and it has tiktok on it. Would you want your kid to consume content that hates the country that you live in?

Let me push the envelope; Would you like that kid to consume content to make themselves sick or do harm themselves? I literally saw a woman poke what looks like a scraping knife (the ones with a curve at the end?) And put that in their eyelids... I almost threw up. Ew.

No, seriously. I'm not joking. That shit is not a joke. THAT is allowed to propagate on tiktok.

To better understand what is happening, our government told Apple and the Google Play Store to remove TikTok from their stores. You could still go onto the websites and install it onto your phone. Instead of China just accepting this, they have decided to pull it off the US market entirely to make users in the US mad and have them blame the government because they know how little Americans under the age of 30 pay attention to politics and they will use this manipulation for force our government's hand.
China is evil and Chinese operated infrastructures should NOT exists in America. They have been saying for decades they will destroy the country from within. We have no legal repercussions for the damages they push with this app. You can take farm land back, but you cannot erase the damage done to millions of kids and teens through this app.
Just because it doesn't happen to you and you don't see the damages done doesn't mean they are not happening.

I don't think he understands it. I get why he is arguing against this because of government overreach and that is a logical stance to have concerns over, however this is a foreign issue. We are able to solve local issues in our own country easier than dealing with a nation that is openly intending on causing harm. His views are the same as a lot of people out there because they don't want more government control but like I said, when it comes to foreign matters, we NEED government control. They argue local vs foreign and throw the slipper slope concept but every choice has a slope that can go into a million directions. In fact, doing nothing IS one of those slopes and it leads to a bad place.
Arguing over this ain’t even gonna be worth it if it makes me not even liked here. I just wanted to give my view of it, as someone who uses it daily. As someone who TikTok helped get through a lot of hard times.

I don't care if you have differing opinions on it. I will flat out tell you I hate TikTok but I am not going to call you stupid for liking it because it helps you in your day to day life. That is the case for a lot of people. Heck, people make a living on the platform so I get it. I am just very much against the CCP, more so than our own government (which sucks by the way lol).
I just wanted to make a point to be transparent that it is China doing this now. The US was only going to remove it from mobile stores, not ban it. China has elected to remove it entirely which proves it holds value to them as a weapon. Again, this is mostly being used against kids and teens.
I think the best thing that could come of this is the US just starting a platform that rivals it. Twitter was stupid for getting rid of Vine.
I just always get worried when getting political. I’ve had family come at me and block me before for different reasons, when I’m trying to even be respectful ya know? So I just get jittery.
But yeah, I mean as far as kids go I’m fine not having them there. It gets slippery when saying teens because like I think 15 is an okay age to start getting into it. But with parents obviously keeping an eye on what they are doing.
I’m just glad I only have 281 followers. I’d be a lot more mad if I was someone who had a huge following, and was going to be losing out on money I was making.
