The US government is suing the big RAM distributors over price hikes and capped increases. Samsung for example is raising their RAM costs 20% every quarter. If this lawsuit goes through, the costs will come down and the future of gaming won't end up being so expensive. As it stands right now the PS6 is pushing for a 2027 release with a price point of $1000+ for the console and $500 for the handheld version. Xbox is aiming to beat them by getting their consoles to the market before they do with similar price points. They are said to be working on a handheld too.

Rumors are projecting without RAM and other component decreases, the starting price for both consoles could be as much as $1,200 with the handheld versions starting at $600. That is way to expensive more most people.

On a side note, it seems to have been confirmed that the reason Sony is pushing for a digital future is down to the costs. Not because not enough people play physical discs. So that was a lie.
