Maybe 50 years ago, but that wouldn't fly today. I know some people if given the choice, they would like to be straight or feel okay in their own bodies and if that was an option, I would be happy for them to have it but this issue is more about breaking laws. Being gay or trans isn't against the law.
True so long as the PC culture keeps up, as I hope it would. I'd hate to see us go backwards to where being gay or trans was a crime, so long as you're happy and not inflicting damage on anyone else, you should be free to be whomever and whatever you like. It just reeks of being one of those things where some old bag of bones that doesn't understand that time has passed him by will try his hardest to make it mandatory for anyone who isn't a heterosexual...I hate those types, but I'll be damned if they aren't a part of every progressive step forward trying to pull the chains and slow down progress.
People have enough commonsense today to simply not care. Like most people don't care if a person is gay, trans, whatever so long as they aren't breaking laws (specifically harming children or rape) and they don't get overly sexual in public (this is mostly dealing with pride celebrations getting too sexual with nudity, thrusting/dry humping, etc.). I just can't see people going backward on this.
I sure hope so, I really do! If we can get past bigotry and stupidity and let people live their lives in whatever way makes them happiest (within reason, of course, no MAPs), that would be fantastic. I'm sure we'll get there one day and people won't have to fear being themselves.
