I like your optimism but my pessimistic hope in movies these days is always screaming "THEY'LL SCREW IT UP!" lol

Only good adaptation from video games has been Sonic and that’s only because they saw the writing on the wall in terms of the outcry.

Anime adaptations and I’m really racking my brain here to think. Probably, Alita at least decent story and financially successful. Although some do have a cult following on the Guyver adaptations.

I didn't watch Sonic but I heard it did well and also that Detective Pikachu did well too. So there is that. But thinking of all the video game and live-action anime movies they have done in the past, 2 won't make it promising. lol

I will admit to enjoying the Mortal Kombat movies but I was a kid at the time.

I enjoyed them as well even if they weren't accurate. It was just fun, over the top, martial arts. I was also a big fan of the Mortal Kombat tv show they had on USA network if my old man memory serves correct.

I'm waiting for someone to come on here and say they liked the Street Fighter live action movie. Then Imma get real sick house on someone.

I loved the Mortal Kombat films as a kid, they were excellent! They absolutely do not hold up, though .

Detective Pikachu is actually halfway decent, so I'll agree with you on that! Have yet to watch Sonic, either, but I have heard decent things.

Almost all of the Japanese adaptations fail as well. So it's not just a Hollywood thing. I didn't mind the Japanese Death Note film series, it was fairly faithful and quite entertaining. Unlike the Netflix adaptation. Only good part of that film was Willem Dafoe as Ryuk which is fantastic.

Yeah, and speaking of Netflix jacking shit up. Whoever does their translation work for anime needs to be fired because it's bad, like really bad and I notice typos in the subtitles as well. So if that's a different person fire their ass too. Case in point, Beastars subtitles have multiple typos and they use the Japanese literal translations for the characters names like Louis is Rouis and Haru is Hal. Too literal, that's something that needs to be adapted because it's just improper English.

Also, Full Metal Alchemist live action sucks ass too.

I really liked Alita. I watched the Guyver movies before I knew what anime was, so I have always liked them.

I wouldn’t worry because no one has the rights outside Japan to produce anything. Disney only has distribution rights they acquired when they bought Fox.

Our community in the macro sense of DB is a poignant example of this fact. You have so many "fans" that just watch the anime or even worse watch DB evolution to think that's what it's all about. LividJay can attest after recently reading the manga that he understands the differences and I think if you want to call yourself a fan of something you need to digest as much content as possible.
