My nana used to handmake them but they were bigger and twisted into like a ribbon shape. I really should have spent more time with her growing up and learned how to make stuff. Her recipes are amazing and all from Italy.

Sounds an awful lot like Italian pretzels. Sort of jealous I never had an Italian grandma to learn from, always the best cooks. My mother was decent, and I've learned how to cook a great deal of British food from her, but Italian foods...yummy.
