Any martial artists here? What is your preferred style and thoughts on use in competition or practical self defense?

I've tried Krav Maga for several years and even had a stint in Russian Systema. A lot of experience going hands on with people has taught me all that flash means nothing because you're almost guaranteed to go to the ground and start rolling around like you're having sex on the beach. A good basis in wrestling or jiu jitsu will serve you well. It also doesn't hurt to have a weapon you are proficient with if things go south. Stay safe out there!

I was in Karate classes when I was a teenager, and I just signed up for lessons at a different Dojo again just recently, actually (I'm 25).

Glad to hear it. I'm going to start with BJJ since a place opened not too far from me. I certainly hope I don't get torn limb from limb in there. I'll be 36 in less than a month. I feel like Roger Murtaugh from Lethal Weapon.

I watched the old teenage mutant ninja turtles so I wanted to learn karate, I teach my self by watching videos and I watch cool anime like Naruto and dragon ball z so I learn from that.
