It has been happening for decades now. Kids are raised, sadly, to hate police offers and anyone associated with the police in inner-city areas. Not much you can do about it.

For all people like to mock British police officers, I will point out that not many other countries would think to equip their police officers for the possible dangers of swords and sword-related mishaps by fitting them with bicycle helmets. You're welcome, world safety.
British cops get laughed at, ours get attacked and targeted. I would much rather ours got laughed at.
I will tip my hat to British police officers because they learn excellent de-escalation techniques because otherwise they're proper fucked and will promptly get their shit kicked in during a force on force encounter. Verbal judo is important until it's not and you have to go up the use of force continuum.
Fair point, it is ridiculous how frequently US cops get targeted for violence. Lest we forget the Dallas attacks, or how many cops sacrificed themselves to save others in Vegas. I'll always have a lot of respect for law enforcement, and just how frequently their lives are put in danger.
Completely agreed, British police are well equipped with verbal de-escalation techniques that more police departments the world over should have in their arsenal.
